About Us

BoomBoom Fireworks has been an evolving brand since 1995 and successfully running as a company since 2008.

Being 100% New Zealand owned and operated, we strive to consistently offer quality driven outdoor and indoor fireworks displays, a pyrotechnics training school, special effects, gas equipment hire and pyrotechnic equipment for sale.

Our History

Boom Boom Fireworks began as a concept in 1992 when owner, Richard Mangos entered the explosives industry. Working throughout the North Island Richard became an experienced explosives operator, forming his own company, Xplotek in 1996.

Further diversification lead him on to working within the special effects industry realm where he worked alongside Wayne Rugg, a leading special effects director, and many other principal supervisors of the time. When Rugg passed away in 1997, Richard bought the company’s equipment and formed Pyrotex FX Ltd which successfully provided special effects and pyrotechnic services to the New Zealand film industry.

The year 2001 saw Richard close the company to travel abroad where much of his industry experience was gained. He worked in Australia for one of the world’s biggest fireworks companies, Foti International Fireworks, and assisted with the 2001 Sydney New Years Eve fireworks display on the Sydney Harbour.

Following this, Richard then travelled to Cape Town in South Africa where he signed up with MXFX, a special effects company, and worked on special effects and pyrotechnic projects for international films and TV commercials there and in the desert of Namibia.

Returning back to New Zealand in 2005, Richard formed Mangos Fireworks, his own fireworks business, which has quickly built itself up to be Auckland’s premier fireworks display company.

2010 sees Mangos Fireworks change its name to Boom Boom Fireworks.
